Fatty foods such as butter, oils, meat drippings/grease, chocolate and meat scraps may cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) when ingested, especially by dogs. Certain breeds, miniature Schnauzers in particular, are more likely to develop pancreatitis than other breeds.
Feeding your dog fatty foods, like hot dogs, bacon, ribs, or fried chicken, can upset your dog's stomach and cause vomiting and diarrhea. It can also lead to pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas.
Dogs find themselves drooling like crazy and licking their lips when they smell all that grease. Unfortunately, their pancreas is not as excited. Pancreatitis or excessive vomiting leading to dehydration are risks of animals ingesting lots of fat.25-Oct-2018
4. Bacon, Ham and Fat Trimmings. Bacon, bacon grease, ham, and fat trimmed off meat or bones contains a lot of salt and/or fat and at the least can cause indigestion, vomiting, and diarrhea in both dogs and cats. These foods can also cause pancreatitis, a serious, potentially deadly inflammation of the pancreas.02-Dec-2019
Cooking Oil or Fat: Cooking oil and fat which has been overheated may poison a dog if they consume it. Unfortunately, many dogs find the oilfat extremely palatable and they do not know it can poison them.
In summary, bacon grease is not toxic to dogs. But if enough is eaten it can cause upset stomachs, and in rare cases, pancreatitis. Try not to give them any grease as a treat or as part of their regular diet at all. If Fido does consume grease in a large quantity then call your veterinarian for advice.16-Sept-2021
If your Dog ate A LOT of Grease, your dog may develop Pancreatitis or Kidney Failure. A Vet can confirm this with a simple blood test. Contact your local Veterinarian immediately or contact the Pet Poison Hotline or the the Animal Poison Control Center (ASPCA).
